Abstract: Gongtan town, one of the first batch of historical and cultural towns in Chongqing, is located in the west of Youyang County, the middle reach of the precipitous Wujiang River, where the town buildings has integrated into the mountains and water, forming the core scenic spot of the Wujiang River gallery. Due to the inundation of Pengshui Hydropower Station reservoir, the bank reformation and landslide, the town needs relocation. In the planning and implementation of land acquisition for the Hydropower Station and immigrant resettlement, to protect the townscape, according to the geological investigation and by full consideration of the will of immigrants, we conducted detailed work on site selection, planning and construction of the new and old towns respectively, realized the coordination of cultural relics protection, ancient town reconstruction and immigrant resettlement compensation. It promotes the new town relocation, ancient town reconstruction, cultural relics protection and tourism development and has achieved good effect. The experience could provide reference for other similar projects.
