Abstract:
As a form of buried fault with little outcrop, Xijiang Fault is a main NW trending fault in Pearl River Delta Economic Zone. To explore the splitting relation between the fault and the Quaternary strata and understand fault activity in Quaternary Period, a shallow seismic survey was conducted along 8 survey lines in piedmont area from Sanshui District of Foshan City in the north to Modaomen Mouth of Pearl River in the south, where the bedrock fault exposes, and a drilling checking test was conducted near Xiaohuangyang Farm in the south. The results show that bedrock fault extends to the bottom of the weathered layer but does not reach the upper layer or split the Quaternary strata. The drilling test results correspond well with the survey results, which proves that the survey methods are reliable and credible. It is concluded that Xijiang Fault has been in an inactive state since mid-late Pleistocene.
