Abstract: Danjiangkou Reservoir is the strategic water source area of China, and clean-up of the reservoir site before its impoundment and prevention water pollution are very important to ensuring safe running of the reservoir. To ensure quality and schedule of the reservoir site cleaning work, we formulated relevant supervision and monitoring procedures and methods according to the characteristics of Danjiangkou Reservoir site cleaning and the influential degree of every pollution source. In addition, the problems emerging during the implementation process of reservoir site cleaning were solved. The water quality of Danjiangkou Reservoir reaches the classification II according to the environmental monitoring department of Hubei Province. The reservoir site cleaning methods and achievements could provide some experiences for other reservoirs.
