Abstract: In 2018, Changjiang Water Resources Commission (CWRC) has achieved outstanding achievements in flood and drought disaster prevention in Changjiang River basin, including effectively responding to regional big floods in the upper reaches of Changjiang River, and successful disposal of four dangerous barrier lakes in Jinsha River and Yarlung Zangbo River. In particular, the "11.3" Baige barrier lake emergency treatment work had been done with all strength, showing a good working state and spiritual style, and vividly interpreting the Changjiang Water Resources Commission spirit of "unity, dedication, science and innovation". At present, the flood control, drought relief and disaster reduction engineering system of the Changjiang River Basin has been preliminarily formed, and the reservoir group spearheaded by Three Gorges Project has been gradually completed and put into operation, the flood control and drought relief capacity of the basin has been improved. However, the prevention ability of flood and drought disasters is still not compatible with the level of economic and social development and the people′s yearning for a better life. There are still some weak links and prominent problems in the prevention of flood and drought disasters, and the situation is still severe. In 2019, we should focus on implementation of responsibilities, comprehensive dispatching, supervision and management, fundamental work, coordination and cooperation, and make all effort to do a good job in preventing flood and drought disasters to ensure water safety in the basin.
