Abstract: In 2020,the largest basin-wide flood occurred in the Changjiang River Basin,the third largest flood only less than 1954,1998 since the founding of New China. Under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, and under the strong command of the Ministry of Water Resources, the Changjiang Water Resources Commission together with relevant provinces(municipalities) and relevant units in the river basin, has achieved an overall victory through the dual test of epidemic prevention and flood control. On the basis of summarizing the flood characteristics and flood control practices in the Yangtze River Basin in 2020, the situation, requirements and existing problems were analyzed for flood control and disaster mitigation in the Changjiang River Basin in the new era. From current and long-term perspectives, the focus of the next stage was proposed to revise the river basin flood control planning, improve the flood control system and capacity in order to comprehensively enhance the ability of flood control and disaster mitigation in the Yangtze River Basin, which will ensure the safety of the Changjiang River Basin.
