Abstract: In 2020, a basin severe flood occurred in Yangtze River, among which an extraordinarily flood occurred in the upstream, which was the most serious flood since 1998. Based on the analysis on the characteristics of rainstorms and floods in Yangtze River in 2020 and the systematic summary of flood prevention works, the main experiences of successfully fighting against the five numbered floods in Yangtze River is summarized in this paper. Meanwhile, the problems existing in the construction and management of flood storage and detention areas, the management of dykes in the bottomland, the standardized management of reservoirs operation, the joint operation of water projects, and the prediction are analyzed. Lastly, some suggestions are put forward for flood prevention in the future.
