Abstract: In the flood season of 2020, Hubei Province suffered from a rare flood after being seriously impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The flood control situation was very severe. Under the strong leadership of the provincial party committee and the provincial government and the strong support of the Ministry of Water Resources and the Changjiang Water Resources Commission, the water conservancy departments at all levels of the Hubei Province overcame all kinds of unfavorable factors, took the initiative to act, monitored and warned closely, operated scientifically and accurately, and minimized the flood losses. This paper introduced the situation of flood control and disaster relief in Hubei Province in 2020 and the main experience and practices of flood control and disaster relief of the water resource departments, from the aspects of early and full preparation, careful monitoring and early warning, timely consultation and judgment, accurate and scientific operation, standardized inspection and defense, strict inspection and supervision, solid mountain torrents defense, and strict on duty. The problems and deficiencies in flood control were then analyzed, and the work ideas at the next stage were proposed. It has certain reference value for future flood and drought disaster prevention.
