Abstract: 14 heavy rainfall processes occurred in Hunan Province in 2020. Affected by the rainfall and the flood coming from the mainstream of the Yangtze River, there were 92 hydrological stations exceeding the warning water level, 16 stations exceeding the guaranteed water level and 2 stations exceeding the historical water level in the Xiangjiang River, the Zijiang River, the Yuanjiang River, the Lishui River and Dongting Lake area. The second largest flood and the longest over-warning time water level occurred at the Chenglingji Station of Dongting Lake in this century. Under the scientific guidance of Ministry of Water Resources and the Changjiang Water Resources Commission, water conservancy departments at all levels in Hunan Province had strengthened coordination, implemented scientific and comprehensive measures, responded accurately and orderly, finally won a victory in the flood disaster prevention work. By combing the flood prevention and control measures of water conservancy departments at all levels in Hunan Province from the aspects of monitoring, forecasting and early warning, water project operation and water conservancy technical support, this paper summarized the successful experience of flood control work, and provided scientific reference for flood and drought disaster prevention in the future.
