Abstract: A rare catastrophic flood occurred in the Yangtze River of Anhui reach and Chaohu Lake Basin in the plum rain season of 2020. This paper analyzed the characteristics of flood situation, summarized the experience and practice from the duties of the water resources department: the monitoring and early warning, water projects flood control operation, and emergency technical support. Some enlightenment weer obtained:(1) insisting on “putting people and their lives in the first place” and ensuring people's lives is the highest goal of disaster prevention;(2) insisting on focusing on preventing the over-standard floods, reservoir failures and mountain torrent disasters is the key measure to reduce disaster risk effectively;(3) insisting on making up for the deficiency, improving the weak points, and strengthening the construction of water conservancy projects is the material basis for disaster prevention;(4) insisting on the guidance of information, monitoring, forecasting and early warning is a reliable support for disaster prevention.
