Abstract:
In 2022,the Yangtze River Basin suffered from severe drought. In order to mitigate the impact of severe low water in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River on water demand for water supply, irrigation and other purposes, and ensure the food security and water supply security of the basin, under the unified deployment of the Ministry of Water Resources, Changjiang Water Resource Commission together with the Water Resources Departmentsof Hunan Province and Jiangxi Province, implemented two drought relief joint operations of multi-reservoirs for water supply and autumn harvest in the Yangtze River Basin in mid August and mid September respectively.Based on the analysis on water demand in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the water storage and regulation of the reservoirs in the early stage and the prediction of water inflow in future, a scheme of drought relief joint operation was determined, which regulated the reservoirs in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the Dongting Lake Basin and the Poyang Lake Basin. The two special actions provided 3.57 billion cubic meter and 2.59 billion cubic meter of water respectively.According to the practice of drought relief joint operations of multi-reservoirs in the Yangtze River Basin in 2022,the article proposed existing problems such as the ability of drought prediction needs to be improved, the prediction on water demand in arid areas is not accurate enough, the regulation system of drought relief and water supply needs to be established, and the basic research of drought relief and water supply needs to be deepened, finally wegave targeted suggestions.
