Abstract:
The pattern of Strong South and Weak North in bifurcated Baimao shoal continues to intensify in recent years. The scouring to the main trough in Southern Channel and the nearshore riverbed is significant, threatening the stability of the riverbank and the safety of the nearby wharf. In this paper, the pattern variation of Strong South and Weak North in Baimao shoal reach was systematically studied based on the evolution of Baimao shoal inlets and the variation of flow diversion ratio. It is concluded that the increasing pattern of Strong South and Weak North is a manifesting way in a certain stage during the periodic evolution of Baimao shoal inlets. In view of the divergence of flow diversion ratios calculated by different methods, it is more reasonable to compare the value of flow diversion ratio calculated by the same method. The project of deep-water channel regulation has restrained the trend of shoreline retreat induced by scouring and changed the periodic evolution mode, which is beneficial for the stability of river regime of Baimao shoal.Under the existing river regime and the effect of built engineering, the pattern variation of Strong South and Weak North of Baimao shoal inlets will slow down.
