Abstract:
The barriers between the rivers and lakes have been acknowledged as the main cause for the decline of the river-lake complex ecosystem in the lower-middle reaches of the Changjiang River. To restore the river-lake connectivity and biological corridors is surely one of the most important measures for its ecological restoration. In this study, on-site investigations were conducted at Huayang River as well as its affiliated lakes, Huayang Lakes, Caizi Lake and Shengjin Lake respectively, in order to investigate their connectivity to the main stream of Changjiang River. It was found feasible to perform the restoration engineering of the river-lake biological corridors by way of water conservancy projects, etc.,which could effectively slow down the decline of the river-lake complex ecosystem. In addition, a framework for biological corridor restoration was verified technically feasible, that is constructing fish passage facilities, building ecological drainage networks and seasonally flooding fries into lakes. Also, the research discusses the technical and managerial troubles that might exist as well as the countermeasures and suggestions. This study can provide useful reference for the restoration for connectivity of rivers and lakes and the biological corridors as well as the “State Water Grid Project” in the lower-middle reaches of Changjiang River.
