Abstract:
To ensure the health of rivers and achieve sustainable and coordinated development of human society ,this study in- troduced the concept of " multifunctional rivers " based on an analysis of various river functions. We constructed a multifunctional river health assessment index system ,which encompasses flood control and drainage functions ,natural functions ,ecological func - tions ,environmental functions ,resource functions ,and cultural functions. Using the xiaoqing River in Shandong Province as a case study ,this research employed the AHP- fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method to conduct a multifunctional assessment of the xiaoqing River before and after management interventions in 2007 and 2019 ,respectively . The evaluation results indicated that in 2007 ,the operational status of various functions of the xiaoqing River was " inferior , " displaying weak multifunctionality . Specific indicators such as the fish population index , sediment pollution index , water quality , average river slope , and navigational water depth assurance rate were rated as " inferior , " with the primary constraining criteria being environmental and resource functions. In 2019 ,the operational status of the various functions of the xiaoqing River was improved to " good " , showing a significant en- hancement in multifunctionality . The resource function exhibited the most substantial improvement ,transitioning from " inferior " to " excellent " ,indicating that by carrying through a series of comprehensive management measures ,the river ’ s functions gradually recovered. The evaluation results have revealed the developmental status of various functions of the xiaoqing River after its man- agement ,aiming to provide a reference for the future enhancement of the river ’s functions and its management and development.
