Abstract:
Hybrid pumped storage power station is a hydroelectric power station that has both pumped storage and runoff power generation functions. It is a high-quality long-term energy storage way that helps promote the development of integrated clean energy bases composed of water, wind, and solar energy in a basin. This article explores the key issues in the construction and operation of hybrid pumped storage power stations from the aspects of site selection, engineering design, construction, and operation scheduling. The hybrid pumped storage power station does not require constructing new upper and lower water reservoirs, and requires few land acquisition and none immigrations.Electricity produced by the hybrid pumped storage power station can be bundled and sent out together with the traditional hydropower station. But it is necessary to focus on the impacts on the ecological environment and the supported reservoirs, so as to reasonably recommend the installed capacity by technical and economic comparison. To optimize engineering investment, many researches are need in unit design and manufacturing, long-distance water diversion and underground powerhouse system design, construction of inlet and outlet at the existing reservoirs, the analysis of pumping reliability and river dredging, and integrated operation and scheduling scheme, etc. This article suggests optimizing site selection according to local conditions, and steadily promoting the development of hybrid pumped storage power stations.
