Assessment and zoning of groundwater function in Jianghan-Dongting Plain

Abstract
To reasonably develop and utilize the underground water in Jianghan-Dongting Plain, through data collection and field investigation, an assessment system including the indicator level of resources function, ecology function and geological environment function was established. The Plain was divided into four zones and 17 sub-zones for groundwater function assessment, and the function division for groundwater resources, ecology and geological environment was determined by using AHP and MapGIS software spatial analysis. Finally, by considering the analysis results of function zoning and dominant functions analysis, the groundwater functions in Jianghan-Dongting Plain were classified into five levels, i.e. strong, relatively strong, ordinary, relatively weak and weak sustainability. The analysis results can offer scientific basis for sustainable utilization and protection planning of groundwater resources, geological environment and ecological environment in Jianghan-Dongting Plain.
