Fish protection practices under condition of entire river hydropower development by a single company

Yalong River Hydropower Development Company Ltd is in full charge of the hydropower development of the Yalong River. This development mode helps making overall environment protection measures and realizing scientific, orderly and harmony hydropower development. In the light of the distribution and living habit of the fishes in the river, Yalong River Hydropower Development Company Ltd made and implemented the comprehensive measures to minimize the impact on the fish owe to hydropower development. The measures comprise setting up fish natural protection zone, reservoir water stratified discharge, ecological flow, fish habitat rehabilitation, fish passing facilities, fish breeding station etc. After the fish protection measures were put into operation, field investigation was conducted to verify the fish protection effect. The investigation results showed that the protection effect was satisfying. The experiences on fish protection facility construction and operation are summarized and some suggestions are put forward for improving the future work.
